271/365 Photo Project - Parkway Sculpture

Parkway Sculpture

The sunny skies and warm temperatures returned to Boston today but it wasn't hard to avoid the crowds and find something of interest to capture for the blogosphere. It was however difficult to see this image on my camera phones screen. When I took this shot I thought I had zoomed in closer to this sculpture but upon looking it at in post I found the reflections in the skyscraper in the distance of more interest.

Taken with the LG Optimus Elite, some window reflections removed in post processing.

270/365 Photo Project - Overcast Over The Charles River

Overcast Over The Charles River

In New England you quickly learn that the weather changes by the hour, and today was no exception. A freezing cold morning was quickly replaced by a hot and humid afternoon but these clouds over the Charles river certainly didn't look very warm and inviting. Taken while on the red line T as it crosses the 'Salt and Pepper' bridge towards Cambridge.

269/365 Photo Project - The Old And The New

The Old And The New

While out and about for lunch around the Boston harbor today the juxtaposition of the old Tea Party ship and the new office construction in the background caught my eye in this scene. It was interesting to sit there and watch the tourists throwing pretend boxes of tea overboard. I have to say being a British ex-pat I feel like I've let the side down having always preferred coffee ;)

268/365 Photo Project - Stairway To Heaven

Stairway To Heaven

The features of the facade of this local area church caught my eye today and their resemblance to a stairway to the blue skies above. Unfortunately it was such a fine day there wasn't a fluffy cloud in sight to add some interest to the background.

267/365 Photo Project - Prize Winners

Prize Winners

It wouldn't be a weekend spent at the Common Grounds fair without some prize winning vegetables. I think the largest crowds I've seen in the past few years were here this weekend.

Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in landscape mode to maximise the area in focus, tone adjusted in post processing.

266/365 Photo Project - Red Rooster Red Rooster

Red Rooster Red Rooster

One of my favorite things that I like to see at Country fairs are the prize winning livestock. This best in show Rooster was determined not to have his profile captured but I persisted despite the swarm of children around him. PS. Livestock are not pets people!

The moon was flying high over the old tin roof of this house in Maine on this chilly fall Friday eve.

263/365 Photo Project - Mall Self Portrait

Mall Self Portrait

Taken with my mobile phone while heading down the escalator at a local area mall, a very uninspiring shot to be sure.

Taken with the LG Optimus Elite, no post processing.

PS. I hate the fact that Blogger has now forced the new interface on all bloggers, what was wrong with leaving the traditional UI for those who liked it Google?

262/365 Photo Project - Little Fluffy Clouds

Little Fluffy Clouds

While heading out to work this morning these little fluffy clouds passing above caught my eye. If only those overhead cables weren't in the way this might have been a true keeper.

261/365 Photo Project - Macro Mold

Macro Mold

Returning to macro photography today and the same bowl of veggies in the kitchen I used on Friday brought up a new surprise today lurking at the bottom of the bowl. I don't think we'll be cooking up this batch of potatoes any time soon.

Taken with the Pentax K200d, handheld with MF attached to my , tone corrected in post processing.

260/365 Photo Project - Converging Lines

Converging Lines

A photo cliche if ever there was one for today's photos, the rail lines converging towards the headline.

259/365 Photo Project - Wrap Around Project

Wrap Around Project

One of the great things that I like about the city life is that there's always something going on, something to capture on my photography blog if only one heads out and about. Today's photo is courtesy of the Somerville 'Wrap Around Project' of which I am embarrassed to say or know nothing of but that they have knitted these nicely fitting fence warmers and attached them outside the Somerville Library West branch.

258/365 Photo Project - Potato Buds

Potato Buds

I fall back on my old motto of 'if in doubt of what to take a photo of break out the macro lens' today. This potato past it's prime sitting in a our vegetable bowl in the kitchen is the subject for today.

Taken with the Pentax K200d, handheld with MF attached to my , tone corrected in post processing.

257/365 Photo Project - Somerville Sun Flares

Somerville Sun Flares

I like breaking the rule of photography of not taking shots in to the sun, today in Somerville the sun was shining high on this one of last days of summer.

Taken with the LG Optimus Elite, curves adjusted in post processing to increase the detail in shadow but the lens flare here is real not added in post.

256/365 Photo Project - Ugliest Building In Boston

Ugliest Building In Boston

I here by nominate the Government Center building as the most ugly building in Boston if not New England. The late after sun cast a harsh shadow in this shot that was almost too much of a contrast for my camera phone to cope with.

Taken with the LG Optimus Elite, levels adjusted in post processing to increase the detail in shadow.

Last Call For Summer

This sign outside a pub in Davis Sq. summed up this time of year nicely I thought.

254/365 Photo Project - McGrath Highway Bridge

McGrath Highway Bridge

During the commute to work this morning the sun was shining but it certainly felt like fall was here. As I cranked on the cars heat while waiting for light to change in Somerville this morning I captured the sun light shining on this McGrath Highway Bridge.

253/365 Photo Project - Telegraph Pole w/ Crescent Moon

Telegraph Pole w/ Crescent Moon

I feel like Rimmer from Red Dwarf for making another image posting of a telegraph pole. Can you see the crescent moon in the distance?

252/365 Photo Project - The Coming Storm

The Coming Storm

As the storms that have been battering the NE headed towards Massachusetts this evening the skies overhead became more and more ominous. Hold on to your hats this is going to get windy.

Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in landscape mode, cropped for aspect, converted to b&w and curves adjusted in post processing.

251/365 Photo Project - Storm Cloud Fail

Storm Cloud Fail

As the weekend rolled in so did the storm clouds with the lightning and thunder roaring above. In am attempt to capture the event I grabbed my Canon P&S and started shooting and it wasn't until later did I realize the camera had focused on the screen not the clouds, fail!

Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS in landscape mode no camera flash, no post processing other than cropping for aspect.

250/365 Photo Project - Museum of Modern Renaissance

Museum of Modern Renaissance

If you are in the Davis Sq area of Somerville you will find one building that catches your eye. The Museum of Modern Renaissance it turns out is just as interesting on the inside as the out.

249/365 Photo Project - Not High Speed Train

Not High Speed Train

Whichever candidate wins the election this year I hope they are going to invest in public transportation. The MBTA is showing it's age in Boston and when I hear from relatives of the high speed rail in Europe and Japan it makes me sad to think that America is being left behind. Rant over.

248/365 Photo Project - Arrêt

Arrêt

While in Montreal last week I couldn't stop myself (no pun intended!) from purchasing this 'Stop' sign from a gift shop near our hotel in Old Montreal. Tonight I've hung this sign on the door in my home office ;)

Taken with the Canon PowerShot SX230HS with on camera flash firing, no post processing other than cropping for size.

365 Photo Project - Everything August

So it's official, the summer is over! Not to bum you out or anything but it's another month of the year gone. Panoramic shots and bugs seem to dominate the shots this month and of course my vacation time spent in Montreal allowed for some more diversity in my potential subjects.

245/365 Photo Project - Japanese Chip Picker

Japanese Chip Picker

Ever since seeing these and other contraptions on Karl Pinkerton's the Idiot Abroad my wife and I have loved that the Japanese have an invention for every need. Little did i know that my in-laws would bring me back one of these from Japan. It is awesome and works, kinda ;) Thanks guys.
